A lot of women are intimidated by weight training. They don't want to end up looking like some type of she-hulk, and they think that by lifting weights they will get big, bulky muscles. I would like to assure you that this is not the case at all. In fact, a quick trip around your average gym will show you that it doesn't make men big and bulky most of the time either! There is a good reason for this.
A recent article that I read has a really good analogy that I love. Imagine you have 2 teams of contractors and both are instructed to build a house. Both teams use the same tools, have the same knowledge and expertise, and use the same techniques. The difference is, team one gets 10,000 bricks. Team two only gets 1000 bricks. Guess who's going to build the bigger house? That's right, team one!
You see, to gain muscle mass, you not only need a solid weight training program, but you need a LOT of calories and protein. If you lift weights and eat a regular amount of food, what you will get is a slim, toned body. The kind of body that most women want.
So, find a program that works for you, get out to the gym, and get that look you've always wanted!

Review of Burn the Fat Feed the Muscle
One program I have found that seems to be pretty popular is Tom Venuto's Burn The Fat Feed The Muscle. Tom has been featured in Oprah Winfrey's magazine and the Wall Street Journal, as well as having written articles for several top fitness magazines, including Men's Fitness, Natural Bodybuilding and Ironman magazine. So, it seems he certainly has some credentials.
One of the things that sticks out most to me about Tom's program is that it is all natural. He does not promote use of any supplements, and is opposed to steroids and fat burning drugs. That is refreshing, as often when reading about body building one of the first things that comes up is expensive supplements. To the beginner, this can be especially daunting.
I don't want to give away any secrets from his program, but he takes a good solid approach at weight loss and muscle gain by focusing on proper nutrition and exercise.
Tom's program is very affordable as well at $39.95. He also throws in a few bonuses and offers an 8 week money back guarantee if you are not satisfied for any reason.
I highly recommend Tom's program for anyone trying to lose weight. It has worked for many people and I believe it will work for you.

Why Weight Training can Help You Lose Fat
Let me start by saying that I have been physically active for most of the last 17 years, with a couple of years off here and there. I have run half marathons, spent hours on treadmills and exercise bikes, swam lap after lap in the pool and, as an afterthought, lifted weights. I have mainly concentrated my efforts on cardio, because that is what many professionals recommend. The problem is, up until recently, I was still 50 pounds overweight.
That's right. All that cardio, and still overweight. Now, to be fair, I was not as overweight as I was when I was doing nothing at all, so I won't say I have not benefited from cardio at all. But it certainly has not kept me slim and trim.
Recently, I started focusing my efforts more on weight training. The difference to me has been amazing! I have lost 25 pounds so far and have kept that weight off for several months. My diet has remained largely the same as at other periods when I focused more on cardio.
I was curious as to why that was, so I did a bit of research. It seems that, after all, weight training can actually be a more efficient way to lose weight than cardio. The reason I found was that while weight training, your body is burning calories, often as many or more than when you do cardio. The real difference though, is after. Weight training raises your metabolism so that you continue to burn calories even when you are done. This is not true of cardio, where you burn x amount of calories, and that is about all (The exception I will add is high intensity training, but that is a different story and is not the traditional cardio we are all used to).
I don't think this is a real secret or breakthrough, it's just something that goes against what we are normally taught about weight loss and exercise. Body builders have obviously known this for years.
Still, I think a lot of people out there are misinformed on this topic, so I decided to write this blog in the hopes of clearing up some of that misinformation. I will post a few articles as I find them and do some reviews of some of the programs that are out there that focus on this.
Hope it helps you out!
